Sometimes it all falls into place
My son thrives on a routine. At first I thought he was too young for such a structured day, but he continues to amaze me at his adaptability.

My son started ABA a little under 6 months ago. It requires him to have a structured day beginning at 7 am and he spends 8 hours a day at his school. For a 2 year old, I didn’t think he would be able to handle such a long, structured day, but he continues to amaze me at how well he adapts. One thing his school is trying to achieve is to wean him from naps. For a 2 year old, no napping is hard. (As an adult, no napping is hard!) If he doesn’t nap at school, he usually falls asleep in the car as my wife is driving him home. From there it’s a vicious cycle of not wanting to wake up to eat dinner, then he doesn’t want to go to bed at his bedtime, so my wife has to stay up and get him settled into bed and they’re both tired the next day. Occasionally, the stars align, and everything falls into place. He stayed awake on the drive home, transitioned nicely into dinner time, played toys and drove his car with dad, and finally shower time and preparations for bed. Everything fell in place and my wife and I both were in bed by 8. It’s little wins like that, that I like to acknowledge. Most days it’s chaotic, but occasionally we get an easier evening.
